Tamil Nadu MBBS Counselling & Admission 2026
The Directorate of Medical Education (DME), Tamil Nadu is the counselling authority responsible for conducting the Tamil Nadu MBBS/BDS Counselling 2026. The authority conducts admission for 85% State Quota seats in Government Medical and Dental Colleges and 100% seats in Self Financing Private Minority and Non-Minority Medical/Dental Colleges (including CMC Vellore as per its reservation policy). The remaining 15% All India Quota (AIQ) seats are filled through the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) based on NEET UG 2026 scores.
The online application process for Tamil Nadu MBBS Admission 2026 is expected to begin after the declaration of the NEET UG 2026 result. Eligible candidates can complete the online registration through the official counselling websites. After verification of applications, the Selection Committee will publish the Tamil Nadu State Merit List based on NEET UG 2026 scores. Online applications are invited for admission to MBBS/BDS Degree Courses in Government Medical and Dental Colleges, Government Quota seats in Self Financing Medical and Dental Colleges, ESIC Medical College, Rajah Muthiah Medical College and I.R.T. Nationality
Candidate must be an Indian Citizen. OCI candidates registered under the Citizenship Act are also eligible as per Government rules.
Entrance Examination
Admission is strictly based on the NEET UG 2026 score.
Minimum Age
Candidate should complete 17 years of age on or before 31 December 2026.
Educational Qualification
Passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually.
General Category
Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology with 50th percentile in NEET UG.
Reserved Category
SC/ST/OBC candidates require 40% aggregate marks and minimum 40th percentile in NEET UG.

Tamil Nadu MBBS Non-Eligibility Criteria
- Candidates already pursuing MBBS in India or abroad are not eligible to apply again.
- Candidates already pursuing BDS are not eligible for fresh admission to BDS through the same counselling process.
- Admission obtained using false certificates or incorrect information will be cancelled and legal action may be initiated.
- Applications submitted after the prescribed last date or without mandatory documents will not be considered.
Tamil Nadu MBBS Nativity Rules
Candidates claiming Tamil Nadu Nativity must satisfy the conditions prescribed by the Selection Committee. Students who have studied from Class VI to XII in Tamil Nadu generally need not produce a Nativity Certificate but must submit supporting documents of their parents. Candidates who studied partly or completely outside Tamil Nadu must submit a valid Nativity Certificate along with supporting documents. Permanent Residence Certificate will not be accepted in place of Nativity Certificate.
Candidates belonging to other States cannot claim Tamil Nadu Nativity merely on the basis of residence. Submission of false Nativity Certificates will lead to cancellation of admission and legal proceedings.

Community Certificate Guidelines
Candidates claiming reservation under any reserved category must submit a valid Community Certificate issued by the competent Revenue Authority. Community Certificates issued by authorities other than those prescribed by the Government of Tamil Nadu will not be accepted. Submission of false or fabricated certificates will result in cancellation of admission and legal action.

Tamil Nadu MBBS Merit List
The Selection Committee will prepare the Tamil Nadu MBBS Merit List strictly on the basis of the NEET UG 2026 score. The merit list will be published only on the official counselling websites. Individual rank letters will not be sent to candidates. Only candidates included in the merit list will be eligible to participate in the counselling process.
Tamil Nadu MBBS Method of Selection & Admission
Admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Tamil Nadu will be carried out through the Single Window Counselling System on the basis of NEET UG 2026 rank, reservation policy, eligibility criteria and seat availability. Candidates are advised to exercise their choices carefully during counselling. Once a candidate opts for a lower preference category while seats are available in a higher category, they cannot subsequently claim a seat in the higher category during later rounds of counselling, subject to the rules prescribed by the Selection Committee.
All India Quota (AIQ) Seats
Fifteen percent (15%) of the total MBBS seats in Government Medical Colleges, I.R.T. Medical College, ESIC Medical College and Rajah Muthiah Medical College are surrendered to the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) for All India Quota counselling. If any AIQ seats remain vacant after MCC counselling, they are transferred back to the State Quota and filled through the Tamil Nadu State Counselling based on the State Merit List.

Tamil Nadu had a total of 40 Medical Colleges offering MBBS courses in 2019, including 26 Government Medical Colleges and 14 Self Financing Private Medical Colleges. Among the private institutions, 8 were Non-Minority Colleges and 6 were Minority Colleges. The state offered a total of 5,550 MBBS seats, out of which 3,600 seats were available in Government Medical Colleges and 1,950 seats in Self Financing Private Medical Colleges. Additionally, 9 Deemed Medical Colleges offered 1,600 MBBS seats. During NEET UG 2019, 1,23,078 candidates appeared from Tamil Nadu and 59,785 candidates qualified, resulting in a qualifying percentage of 48.57%.
