NEET (UG) for Admission to Undergraduate Medical Courses – 2026

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 will be conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other undergraduate medical courses across India. The examination is expected to be held on 04 May 2026 in more than 552 examination cities throughout the country, ensuring equal opportunities for medical aspirants from every state and union territory.

Apart from MBBS admissions, NEET UG scores are also used for admission to BDS, BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS and several other undergraduate medical programmes. At present, nearly 950 AYUSH colleges are functioning across India, offering approximately 2,10,774 medical seats under various healthcare systems. Admissions for the academic session 2026–27 will be conducted strictly on the basis of the NEET UG 2026 merit and counselling process.

NEET (UG) 2026 is the only national-level entrance examination for undergraduate medical education in India. The examination is conducted under the provisions of the National Medical Commission (NMC) and other applicable regulations to ensure a transparent, fair and uniform admission process for all eligible candidates. The common entrance examination provides a single platform for admission to Government, Private, Deemed Universities, Central Universities, AIIMS, JIPMER and other participating institutions across the country.

Important: Admission to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other participating undergraduate medical courses for the academic session 2026–27 will be granted only on the basis of the NEET UG 2026 score, subject to the eligibility criteria, counselling process and rules prescribed by the respective authorities.

About National Testing Agency (NTA)

As per Letter No. MCI (34)(41)(Gen) Med./140542-44 dated 22 October 2018 received from the Medical Council of India (MCI), the Central Government established the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct entrance examinations for admissions and fellowships in higher educational institutions across India.

Further, the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), Government of India, through its notification F.No. 19-5/2014-TS-I dated 06 July 2018, authorized the National Testing Agency (NTA) to conduct the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET-UG).

About NTA

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is an independent, autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization established by the Ministry of Education (formerly MHRD), Government of India. The agency has been entrusted with conducting high-quality entrance examinations in a transparent, fair and technology-driven manner for admissions to higher educational institutions across the country.

The responsibility of the National Testing Agency (NTA) is limited to conducting the entrance examination, processing the results, preparing the merit list and providing the All India Rank (AIR) to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India, which subsequently conducts the counselling process through the designated counselling authorities.

Important Note: NTA is responsible only for conducting the NEET (UG) examination, declaring the results and preparing the All India Rank. The counselling and seat allotment process is conducted separately by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the respective State Counselling Authorities.

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 is scheduled to be conducted on 03 May 2026 (Sunday) from 02:00 PM to 05:00 PM. The examination duration will be 3 hours (180 minutes). The examination schedule will remain unchanged even if the examination date is declared a public holiday.

Important: Candidates are advised to report to the examination centre well before the reporting time mentioned on the Admit Card. Late entry after the closing time will not be permitted under any circumstances.

NEET UG 2026 General Instructions

The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET UG) 2026 will be conducted in accordance with the provisions of the National Medical Commission (NMC) Act, applicable regulations, and other guidelines issued by the Government of India from time to time.

Qualifying NEET does not automatically guarantee admission. Admission depends on eligibility, merit rank, counselling and seat availability.

Submission of false or fabricated information may lead to rejection of the application and debarment from future examinations.

Incomplete applications or applications not submitted as per official instructions are liable to be rejected without notice.

Application fee once paid is non-refundable and cannot be adjusted for future examinations.

Applications cannot be withdrawn after successful submission. Candidates should verify all details carefully before final submission.

Fee payment is considered successful only after the Confirmation Page is generated. Bank deduction alone is not proof of payment.

Applicants should regularly visit the official NTA website for the latest notifications, corrigendums and updates.

NTA reserves the right to cancel the candidature of any applicant found ineligible even after issuing the Admit Card.

The eligibility of every candidate remains provisional until verified by the respective counselling authority and admitting institution.

In case of any dispute regarding eligibility, examination rules or interpretation of instructions, the decision of NTA shall be final.

The entire examination process may be monitored through CCTV/video recording. Candidates should cooperate during identity verification.

Candidates must keep their face clearly visible during videography and follow all examination centre instructions throughout the test.

Candidate Advisory: Read the Information Bulletin carefully before submitting the application form. Follow all instructions issued by NTA, carry only permitted items to the examination centre, and preserve the Confirmation Page, Admit Card and other documents safely until the admission process is completed.

Pattern of NEET (UG) – 2026

The NEET (UG) 2026 examination consists of a single section covering Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany & Zoology). The paper contains 180 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) carrying a maximum of 720 marks. Candidates must mark their answers on the OMR Answer Sheet using the Ball Point Pen provided at the examination centre.

Marking Scheme

  • Each correct answer carries 4 marks.
  • For every incorrect answer, 1 mark will be deducted.
  • No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.
  • Candidates must use only the Ball Point Pen provided at the examination centre to mark responses on the OMR sheet.

Candidates can choose the language of the NEET UG 2026 Question Paper while filling the online application form. Once the language option is selected and the application is submitted, it cannot be changed under any circumstances.

NEET UG 2026 Eligibility & Qualifications

The eligibility criteria for appearing in NEET (UG) 2026 are prescribed under the applicable regulations of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the Dentists Act and other guidelines issued by the Government of India. Candidates must ensure that they satisfy all eligibility conditions before submitting the application form.

Minimum Age

Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or should complete 17 years on or before 31 December 2026.

Upper Age Limit

As per the latest NTA/NMC guidelines, candidates should follow the age criteria notified in the official Information Bulletin. Earlier provisions allowed age relaxation for reserved categories.

Educational Qualification

Candidates must have passed or be appearing in Class 12 (10+2) with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English from a recognized board.

Nationality

Indian Citizens, NRIs, OCIs, PIOs and Foreign Nationals are eligible to appear for NEET UG 2026, subject to the admission rules of the respective authorities.

Age Criteria for NEET UG 2026

  • Eligibility for NEET UG 2026 is governed by the regulations issued by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and the Government of India.
  • Indian Citizens and Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) intending to pursue MBBS/BDS from foreign Medical or Dental Institutions are also required to qualify NEET UG.
  • Merely appearing in NEET UG or qualifying the examination does not guarantee admission. Final admission depends upon eligibility, counselling, merit rank, medical fitness and institutional rules.
  • Candidates must ensure that all information furnished in the application form is correct. Submission of false information may result in cancellation of candidature.
Eligibility for AIQ, State Quota & Qualification Codes

Eligibility for State Quota, Deemed Universities & Central Universities

Indian Nationals, Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCI), Persons of Indian Origin (PIO) and Foreign Nationals are eligible for admission to Government, Private, Deemed, Central Universities, ESIC and AFMC Medical/Dental Colleges, subject to the eligibility rules framed by the respective State Governments, Institutions and Government of India.

Indian Citizens

Eligible for Government, Private, Central, Deemed Universities and State Quota seats as per counselling rules.

NRI / OCI / PIO

Eligible for admission under applicable NRI/OCI/PIO regulations notified by the respective counselling authorities.

Foreign Nationals

Foreign Nationals should verify their eligibility directly with the concerned Medical/Dental College or State Counselling Authority before applying.

ESIC / AFMC

Admission is subject to the eligibility conditions prescribed by ESIC, AFMC Pune and the respective counselling authorities.

Eligibility for 15% All India Quota (AIQ)

Candidates belonging to the following categories are eligible to participate in the 15% All India Quota (AIQ) counselling conducted by the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC):

  • Indian Nationals
  • Non-Resident Indians (NRIs)
  • Overseas Citizens of India (OCI)
  • Persons of Indian Origin (PIO)
  • Foreign Nationals (subject to applicable regulations)

Candidates from Jammu & Kashmir / Ladakh

Candidates belonging to Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh are eligible to participate in NEET UG and may apply for admission to Government, Private, Deemed Universities and AFMC, subject to the prevailing counselling rules. Wherever applicable, candidates may be required to submit the prescribed Self-Declaration Form during counselling.

  • The Self-Declaration submitted by the candidate will be verified during counselling.
  • If any declaration is found false, the candidature or admission may be cancelled.
  • Legal or disciplinary action may also be initiated as per Government rules.

Qualifications & Qualifying Examination Codes

Candidates must have passed or be appearing in the qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English from a recognized Board or University. While filling the NEET UG Application Form, candidates are required to select the appropriate Qualifying Examination Code according to their academic qualification.

CODE ELIGIBILITY
CODE 01 A candidate who is appearing in the qualifying examination, i.e., 12th Standard in 2026, whose result is awaited, may apply and take the NEET UG 2026 examination.

However, he/she shall become eligible for admission to the MBBS/BDS course only after passing the qualifying examination with the prescribed percentage of marks before the first round of counselling.
OR
CODE 02 The Higher/Senior Secondary Examination or Indian School Certificate Examination equivalent to 10+2 after twelve years of study, with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practicals), English and Mathematics/any other elective subject.

Candidates who have completed their qualifying examination with the prescribed subjects are eligible under this code.

Important: Eligibility of Open School candidates, Private candidates and candidates having Biology/Biotechnology as an additional subject shall be governed by the latest NTA/NMC notifications and the final decision of the Hon’ble Supreme Court wherever applicable.
OR
CODE 03 The Intermediate / Pre-degree Examination in Science of an Indian University/Board or other recognised examining body with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (including practical examinations) and English as a compulsory subject.
OR
CODE 04 The Pre-Professional / Pre-Medical Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English after passing either the Higher Secondary Examination, Pre-University Examination or any equivalent examination.

The Pre-Professional / Pre-Medical Examination must include practical examinations in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology along with English as a compulsory subject.
OR
CODE 05 The first year of a three-year Degree Course from a recognised University with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical examinations in these subjects.

The examination must be a University Examination and the candidate must also have passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English at a level not less than the prescribed core course.
OR
CODE 06 The B.Sc. Examination of an Indian University provided the candidate has passed B.Sc. with not less than two of the following subjects:

• Physics
• Chemistry
• Biology (Botany / Zoology)
• Biotechnology

The candidate must also have passed the earlier qualifying examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English.
OR
CODE 07 Any other examination which, in scope and standard (last two years of 10+2 study comprising Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology including practical examinations and English), is recognised as equivalent to the Intermediate Science Examination of an Indian University/Board.

The qualifying examination must include Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology (with practicals) and English, as prescribed by the competent authority.
Minimum Qualifying Marks & Eligibility Rules

Qualifying Examination Candidate must have passed any qualifying examination under Code 01 to Code 07 or be appearing in the qualifying examination for the current academic session as prescribed by NTA.
Required Subjects Candidates must pass Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English individually in the qualifying examination.
General (UR/EWS) Minimum 50% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.
SC / ST / OBC Minimum 40% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.
PwD (UR) Minimum 45% aggregate marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Biotechnology.
Foreign Educated Students Candidates who completed Class 12 abroad must have studied Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology and English with minimum 50% marks. Their qualification must be declared equivalent by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
Other Qualifications Candidates whose qualification does not fall under Code 01–07 must submit complete educational details for determination of eligibility.

Important Notes

  • The Pre-Medical Course may be conducted either at a Medical College or a Science College.
  • Mathematics marks are not considered while determining eligibility for admission to MBBS, BDS, BAMS, BUMS and BSMS courses.
  • Candidates who have studied from a Foreign or International Board should ensure that their qualifying examination is equivalent to the Indian 10+2 standard as prescribed under Code 07.
  • Admission is subject to fulfilling the eligibility conditions prescribed by NTA, NMC, MCC and the respective counselling authorities.

NEET UG 2026 Application Fee & Payment Instructions
Particular Details
Service Charges In addition to the NEET application fee, candidates are required to pay the applicable Bank Processing Charges, Payment Gateway Charges and GST (18%) as applicable.
Application Withdrawal Once the Online Application Form is successfully submitted, it cannot be withdrawn and the application fee will not be refunded.
Payment Advice Candidates should avoid making payment through Cyber Cafés or unknown persons. Any refund, if applicable, will be credited only to the same bank account/card used for payment.

  • Upload a recent Passport Size Photograph with a plain white background.
  • Face should be clearly visible with both eyes open and looking towards the camera.
  • Ears should be visible.
  • No scenery or unwanted objects should appear in the background.
  • Caps, hats and goggles are not permitted.
  • Normal spectacles are allowed if regularly used.
  • Polaroid or computer-generated photographs are not accepted.
  • Digitally edited or manipulated photographs may lead to rejection of the application.
  • Photograph Size: 10 KB – 200 KB (JPG/JPEG).
  • Carry the same passport-size photograph to the examination centre.

Signature Instructions

  • Upload your signature in running handwriting.
  • Initials are not accepted.
  • Writing full name in CAPITAL LETTERS is not considered as a valid signature.
  • Upload the signature only in the prescribed Signature field.
  • Signature should be clear and in JPG/JPEG format.

Confirmation Page & Candidate Login
  • All application related information will be available in the Candidate Login Account.
  • If the Confirmation Page is not generated, the application is considered incomplete.
  • Complete the fee payment and download the Confirmation Page immediately.

General Instructions

  • The Examination Centre will open 02 hours before the commencement of the examination.
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Centre after 01:30 PM.
  • Candidates should leave home well in advance considering traffic, distance, weather conditions and security checks.

Important Reminder

  • Late entry after 01:30 PM will not be permitted under any circumstances.

NEET UG 2026 Instructions to be Followed in the Examination Hall

General Instructions

  • Candidates must produce the original Admit Card whenever demanded by the Centre Superintendent or Invigilator. Without a valid Admit Card, entry to the Examination Hall will not be permitted.
  • The Invigilator will verify the candidate’s identity using the Admit Card and will sign the OMR Answer Sheet and Attendance Sheet.
  • Every candidate must occupy only the seat allotted against his/her Roll Number. Sitting in any other room or seat may lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • No candidate will be allowed to enter the Examination Centre after 01:30 PM under any circumstances.
  • Only the prescribed documents should be carried to the Examination Centre. Failure to produce the required documents may result in disqualification.

Documents Required at the Examination Centre
  • Printed copy of the NEET UG 2026 Admit Card.
  • One recent Passport Size Photograph (same as uploaded in the application form) for affixing on the Attendance Sheet.
  • Any one original and valid Photo Identity Proof:
    • PAN Card
    • Driving Licence
    • Voter ID (EPIC)
    • Passport
    • Aadhaar Card (with Photograph)
    • Ration Card
    • Any other Government-issued Photo ID
  • Original PwD Certificate issued by the Competent Authority, if claiming PwD reservation.

Prohibited Items
  • Any barred item or article that may be used for unfair means is strictly prohibited.
  • No facility for safe keeping of personal belongings will be available at the Examination Centre.
  • Candidates carrying prohibited items may be denied entry or their candidature may be cancelled.
  • Smoking inside the Examination Centre is strictly prohibited.
  • Tea, Coffee, Cold Drinks, Snacks and Water Bottles are not allowed inside the Examination Hall.
  • Candidates suffering from Diabetes may carry sugar tablets, fruits (Banana/Apple/Orange) and a transparent water bottle, subject to NTA guidelines.
  • Packed food items such as Chocolates, Candies, Sandwiches or similar items are not permitted.

During the Examination
  • The examination will begin exactly at the time mentioned on the Admit Card.
  • Listen carefully to all instructions announced by the Invigilator before the examination begins.
  • Signals/Bells will be given at the beginning, halfway through the examination and before the conclusion of the test.
  • Candidates must sign the Attendance Sheet twice:
    • Immediately after the examination begins.
    • While submitting the OMR Answer Sheet.
  • Finger Impression must also be provided in the designated space on the Attendance Sheet.
  • Before starting the examination, verify that the Test Booklet contains the correct number of pages.
  • Candidates are not permitted to leave the Examination Hall before the examination concludes.
  • OMR Answer Sheet must be handed over personally to the Invigilator before leaving the Examination Hall.

Important Notes
  • No re-examination will be conducted for candidates absent on the scheduled examination date due to any reason.
  • Candidates suffering from Diabetes may be provided relaxation strictly in accordance with the latest NTA guidelines.
  • Violation of examination rules may lead to cancellation of candidature and further disciplinary action.
NEET UG 2026 Scoring, Marking Scheme & Examination Rules
Particular Details
Correct Answer Each correct answer carries +4 Marks.
Incorrect Answer One mark (-1) will be deducted for every incorrect answer.
Unanswered Question No marks will be awarded or deducted for unanswered questions.
Multiple Answers If more than one option is marked for a question, it will be treated as an incorrect response and negative marking will apply.
Answer Sheet Evaluation The Test Booklet Code printed on Side-2 of the OMR Answer Sheet will be treated as final for evaluation.

Test Booklet & Rough Work Instructions
  • Detailed instructions regarding the Test Booklet, OMR Answer Sheet and Marking Responses will be available on the official NTA website while downloading the Admit Card.
  • All rough work should be done only inside the Test Booklet.
  • Do not make rough work or stray marks on the OMR Answer Sheet.
  • Candidates should carefully verify the Test Booklet before starting the examination.

Unfair Means & Malpractices

The following activities are treated as Unfair Means

  • Possession of Mobile Phones, Bluetooth Devices, Smart Watches, Electronic Gadgets or any prohibited item.
  • Using unfair means, copying or receiving assistance from any person.
  • Impersonation or allowing another person to appear in the examination.
  • Writing answers on any paper other than the official Test Booklet.
  • Tearing pages from the Test Booklet or damaging the OMR Answer Sheet.
  • Taking the OMR Answer Sheet or Test Booklet outside the Examination Hall.
  • Communicating with other candidates during the examination.
  • Threatening, intimidating or disturbing any candidate inside the Examination Centre.
  • Manipulating, fabricating or digitally editing Admit Card, Photograph, Rank Letter or Self Declaration.
  • Uploading or submitting a morphed or edited photograph during application.
  • Erasing, overwriting or tampering with information printed on the OMR Answer Sheet.
  • Providing false or misleading information in the application form or answer sheet.
  • Manipulating OMR responses before or after declaration of result.
  • Creating any obstacle in the smooth and fair conduct of the examination.
  • Any other activity declared as unfair means by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

Important Warning
  • Violation of any examination rule may lead to cancellation of candidature.
  • Candidates found using unfair means may be debarred from future NTA examinations.
  • NTA reserves the right to initiate disciplinary and legal action against candidates violating examination rules.
  • Follow all instructions issued by the Centre Superintendent and Invigilators throughout the examination.
